We know that this is a time of the year when many teenagers out there are deciding where they want to attend college. Well, if you are afraid of having success after graduation from college, then we’ve found the school for you… Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC.
Why Methodist? The school’s admission page on its website says it all:
“MU students graduate knowing their subject, knowing themselves and having the confidence to strike out in the world.”
So, if you are concerned about having too much success and would rather “strike out in the world,” then Methodist is your place. Not to mention, these guys know how to use a sports analogy!

Mark it down, folks. The week of January 14, 2008, can officially be known as “The Week of the Escape-goat.” We already detailed the Titans dropping Norm Chow as an escape-goat for their offensive woes. And now, turns out that the magazine Golfweek is placing all the blame for its awful cover this week on the editor.
Now, we realize the duties of an editor, but we’re not so sure that this guy necessarily deserves to get the boot. By now, we’re sure you know of the noose put on the cover of Golfweek, a ploy that many are rightly bashing as a cheap attempt at some publicity regarding the comments by analyst Kelly Tilghman. And yes, the editor does have close to the final say in what gets in the magazine and what doesn’t. But there is someone above the editor - the company that owns the publication.
This comment by William P. Kupper Jr., president Turnstile Publishing Co. that owns the magazine, struck us as odd. He said: “We were trying to convey the controversial issues with a strong and provocative graphic image. It is now obvious that the overall reaction to our cover deeply offended many people. For that, we are deeply apologetic.”
He used the word “we.” That says to us that his company knew what the cover would look like, and decided to go along with that decision. So basically, they told the editor that the idea was fine to put a noose on the cover, then when that cover did not go over as expected by the people who gave the OK, they get rid of the editor.
Imagine a defensive coordinator suggesting to the head coach that the team blitz on a key 4th down. Coach agrees that the blitz is the right idea. The blitz fails and the opponent scores the game-winner. Then the team fires the defensive coordinator. Doesn’t seem right, does it? Well, that’s essentially what happened here.
We agree that the editor should be held accountable for backing what turned out to be a pretty terrible idea. But so should Kupper or Turnstile Publishing. If they thought that cover was a bad idea, we feel certain that it would never have appeared this week. It’s a different story if the parent company did not know what the magazine was planning. But in this case it appears they did.
And that’s why we’re calling this “The Week of the Escape-goat.”
Of all the Roy Williamses in sports, there is no doubt that the favorite one for this blog is the wide receiver for the Detroit Lions. We try to reference Roy as often as possible.
Thus, we would be doing Roy and the blog that put this list together if we did not direct you to the Angry T’s top 10 quotes from Roy Williams this past season.
Check here for that top 10 list.
So pour yourself a Grenadine and Tea, sit back and enjoy. It’s a real treat, we promise.
Say what you will about Eli Manning’s ability to play quarterback and lead his team, but our research staff uncovered some info that is hard to look past…
If Eli manages to win at Green Bay this weekend, he will have as many playoff wins in his first four years in the NFL as Big Brother had in his first eight seasons.
We have discovered something amazing: a huge similarity between the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and College Football Bowls. And no, it’s not that both result in an actual champion that is also undisputed. Maybe one day.
Here’s the parallel we discovered… the early games with teams you might not know as well provided far more exciting games than the top level teams facing each other at the end of the post-season - in both sports. Read the rest of this entry »
When watching the post-game interviews after Ohio State’s upset loss on Saturday, we were struck by something: how awful it would be to have Ohio State coach Jim Tressel as your dad. Then the wheels started turning. And so, today we bring the top 10 college football coaches you would like to have as your dad. Tomorrow, the top 10 coaches you would hate to have as your dad (and yes, Tressel will be high on that list).

We would not be doing our jobs if we finally did not take a stand about an important issue - the decision by NBC to run a pilot for a new “Knight Rider” series was a good one. It was a great decision, and one we will stand by no matter what they are saying negatively in this area. We just don’t understand all the backlash against the idea.
Sure, David Hasselhoff will always be the Michael Knight. But there is an entire generation of kids out there who have not gotten to take in the joy that is K.I.T.T. And imagine all the technological advances that this new K.I.T.T. can have! That’s why we can’t figure out why they are so against. Do they really think the show created such a legend in Michael Knight that the show can’t be re-produced without ruining something?
The only possible argument so many people out there could possibly have is to point to what happened with the remakes of “Dukes of Hazzard” and “Miami Vice.” Yes, both of those went quite badly. But those guys were out for a one-tome box office hit. NBC’s “Knight Rider” will be a series, if picked up, not a quick 100 minute scheme to get rich. It’s truly unbelievable to us how many people out there can’t make this distinction.
And then there’s an entirely separate group out there who thinks selecting Doug Liman as executive producer (and possible director is scheduling works out) was a terrible idea. We have no idea how they can think such a thing. Look at his credits: Swingers, Go, The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. And so many of you don’t think he has the resume to pull off a great “Knight Rider” series? We’re sorry, but we must respectfully disagree with that line of thinking.
Liman has a great history, both in comedy and action. He will be able to combine some good action sequences, while not losing the congenial relationship between Michael Knight and K.I.T.T., and even with the Knight Foundation members. Yet, for some reason they think this guy will be a bust and ruin everything.
Well we’re not gonna sit here silently and listen to people bash the new “Knight Rider” pilot. It might not turn out to be the greatest show on television, but we think it;s worth pursuing. There’s a lot of potential there, and we just hope all the close-minded people against the show don’t influence NBC’s decision. Let “Knight Rider” live, baby!
And we’ll leave you this inspirational number from our man Busta Rhymes. No words, but instead a video that can be found here.
