With Brett Favre retiring, here’s our concern… if we can’t root for America, then who can we root for???
(Especially with the Olympics coming up.)
We just came across this story about two women who claimed they were discriminated against by Southwest Airlines employees because they were too pretty.
Nisreen Swedberg, a student at South Florida, and her friend Sarah Williams, claim that the flight attendants were rude to them based on a don’t-hate-me-because-I’m-beautiful theory.
Here’s a quote from Williams: “I mean, nobody else on the plane looked like us except us. [The flight attendants] were like older ladies. We were younger. Who knows, they could have been just jealous of us because we were younger.” Read the rest of this entry »
Hey Alanis Morisette, how is this for irony?
Sesquipedalophobia = Fear of long words.
***It’s not having 10,000 spoons and needing a knife, but we think it would have added a nice touch to the song.
It’s been quite some time since we handed out any awards here. Then we read a story that screamed out for the Gob Bluth “I’ve Made A Huge Mistake” Award.
And so, then winner of the Gob Bluth “I’ve Made A Huge Mistake” Awards is… Thomas Ballard!
Congratulations.
As it turns out, Ballard, of Delhi, LA, was attempting to call a friend to brag about his X-Box skills. Instead, he accidentally dialed the wrong number and freaked out the recipient of the call when he blurted, “I have killed them all.” Read the rest of this entry »
We came across this article earlier today, which contained an awesome quote from former New York Giant Tiki Barber. Of course, Barber is now famous for (a) criticizing and making fun of Eli Manning earlier this season, and (b) retiring the year before the Giants won the big one. Anyway, here’s the quote from Tiki that got our attention:
“I feel great joy for them because I know in a lot of ways I helped a lot of guys on that team,” Barber said. “I know Brandon [Jacobs] was someone who benefited from me being there; even criticizing someone is a way of getting them to think about themselves.”
His comments rang true to us. Then, we thought, what other people might Tiki have led to greatness through his catty criticisms? Read the rest of this entry »
Sometimes we wonder how in the hell CBS consistently has the most-watched comedy shows each week… then we find out this: “Meet the Spartans” was the highest grossing movie of the weekend.
And it all makes sense. Read the rest of this entry »
We’re not really sure what to do with this one.
In light of our recent post found here, talking about how aspiring failures should look into Methodist University, MU changed the wording of a phrase on its admissions page.
What it used to read:
“MU students graduate knowing their subject, knowing themselves and having the confidence to strike out in the world.“
What is now reads:
“MU students graduate knowing their subject, knowing themselves and having the confidence to strike out into the world.”
Note the difference. They left in the phrase “strike out,” but changed what followed to make it sound a little less like they are preparing their students to fail.
We are torn because we appreciate the fact that the administration of MU reads our blog and listened to our suggestion, but we can’t ignore the fact that they left in the part of their message inspiring potential students to strike out.
After much internal dialog, we have decided that although they followed our advice, we will NOT be inducting MU into our Ring of Honor.
Note: One suggestion we would have is for them to find someone other than Reggie Jackson to come up with a mission statement. Check here for more on that.
Alright, so we will give the archbishop the benefit of the doubt on one thing: we too picture Martin Luther as a fat, old, bald guy who wheezed for an hour after posting his “95 Theses” to the door of Castle Church in Wittenburg. Therefore, we can understand his mistake in thinking that Rick Majerus, coach of the Saint Louis University basketball program, might be the next Martin Luther—doing his darnedest to destroy good ole Catholicism. But come on… the Jesuit leadership of Saint Louis University should take “appropriate action” against Majerus because of his views on abortion? Take a look here for the complete article.
