You may have seen where Australian golfer Robert Allenby has been running his mouth the last few days.  He complained that USA’s Anothiny Kim was out partying until 4am the night before Kim whipped Allenby 5 & 3 in the President’s Cup.  (Side note: not sure why you would bring up how late you thought he was partying hours after he whipped your ass, but anyway.)

Allenby claimed, according to this article, that Kim was “the loosest cannon on that team,” then said he thought Kim was the “current John Daly.”

To which Daly told our inside source, “Oh, you mean you think Kim will go on to win 2 majors?  And who the hell is Robert Allenby?”

(One more side note: Allenby has 4 Tour wins and 0 majors, finishing 7th at best.  Daly has 5 Tour wins and 2 majors and a tie for 3rd at The Masters. Meanwhile, Kim already has 2 Tour wins in just 3 years.)

We were watching SportsCenter after the terrific Monday Night Football game last night.  While not paying the most careful of attention to waht was going, we were glad to have the DVR.  Because once we heard this stuff, it had to be written down…

(1) Miami runs the play-action tight end wide open in the end zone play - Stu asks Millen to break it down for us: “Ah, nice job just in terms of a roll action, get him off on the edge, and then [not understandable - maybe “give him the option”] one, two, three, he hits the back of the end zone for a score.”

(2) Immediate next highlight, long pass by Sanchez, Stu says: “Next Jets drive, guys, this is buck - and the definition of buck is when internal artistry meets physical expression… 53 yards, Sanchez to David Clowney.”

Seriously, this is the best ESPN has to offer on the recap of their own NFL game.  A “break down” that merely tells what just happened, followed by Scott making up some phrase called “buck” about artistry and using it to describe a guy running 50 yards and catching a pass???  But as one of our pals said, anything is better than Emmit Smith or Keyshawn Johnson.

First, we can’t put into words how excited we were to see the first commercial featuring Tyler Hansbrough.  We just can’t.  Having now seen that wonderful AT&T commercial a few times over the weekend, we decided it would be a good idea to break down the ins and outs of the commercial.  The easiest way to do this, of course, was to liken it back to Tyler’s playing days in Chapel Hill.  Here’s the commercial…

The way we see it, the guy with the backwards hat (enters about 5 seconds in) is essentially Wayne Ellington in this commercial.  He is the guy that sees the sign for the lost dog and gets the ball rolling, also known as the guy who would inbound the ball to Ty Lawson.

Then the blonde girl (18 second mark) is clearly Ty Lawson.  She does all the work - finds the dog, is nice to the dog, arranges for dog to be returned to owner - also known as the dynamic point guard who breaks down the entire defense and draws defenders while Hansbrough sits under the basket with his mouth open.

Tyler Hansbrough, playing himself, shows up at the girl’s doorstep with the puppy in tow, as if he is the one who found.  This is essentially the same as Hansbrough making the wide open lay-up after Lawson has broken down the defense by himself.

Who gets all the glory in the commercial?  Hansbrough.  Who deserved the glory?  The blonde girl and the backwards hat guy.  Who got all the glory at UNC?  Hansbrough.  Who deserved all the glory at UNC? Lawson and Ellington.

We were glad to see AT&T being able to replicate Hansbrough years at UNC in just a short, 30-second commercial.  The only thing missing was Jay Bilas coming in at the ened and talking about how awesome Tyler Hansbrough is for having single-handedly found that dog for the little girl.

We’ve been gone a few weeks, and we’re even coming in a few days late on this angle - but this story took some time to unearth.  Just like college football fans all over (other than the idiots in Baton Rouge), we were not happy that Georgia’s AJ Green got flagged for excessive celebration that basically cost Georgia the game.

At first the SEC said the penalty call was fine, then on Monday they come out and say the call was incorrect.  Specifically, SEC coordinator Rogers Redding said, “They were high-fiving and bouncing around.  What I didn’t see was any action on the part of the player in question to demonstrate to the fans or draw any kind of special attention to himself.”

But after some further investigation on our part, we learned that the penalty call was not really all that incorrect.  Apparently, the ref on the field did not call the penalty for what occurred in the end zone.  The ref called the penalty for the sick catch made by Green for the score.

“Did you see that play he made?” the ref asked our inside source.  “If there was ever a great example of a guy drawing special attention to himself - which is what the penalty is for -  it’s that catch he made.  How many guys could make a play like that?  Green was basically saying, ‘Look at me, look how great a play I can make for the go-ahead score.’  The penalty was a no brainer as far as I’m concerned.”

We think that’s a pretty good point.  You can decide for yourself…
