First, we can’t put into words how excited we were to see the first commercial featuring Tyler Hansbrough. We just can’t. Having now seen that wonderful AT&T commercial a few times over the weekend, we decided it would be a good idea to break down the ins and outs of the commercial. The easiest way to do this, of course, was to liken it back to Tyler’s playing days in Chapel Hill. Here’s the commercial…
The way we see it, the guy with the backwards hat (enters about 5 seconds in) is essentially Wayne Ellington in this commercial. He is the guy that sees the sign for the lost dog and gets the ball rolling, also known as the guy who would inbound the ball to Ty Lawson.
Then the blonde girl (18 second mark) is clearly Ty Lawson. She does all the work - finds the dog, is nice to the dog, arranges for dog to be returned to owner - also known as the dynamic point guard who breaks down the entire defense and draws defenders while Hansbrough sits under the basket with his mouth open.
Tyler Hansbrough, playing himself, shows up at the girl’s doorstep with the puppy in tow, as if he is the one who found. This is essentially the same as Hansbrough making the wide open lay-up after Lawson has broken down the defense by himself.
Who gets all the glory in the commercial? Hansbrough. Who deserved the glory? The blonde girl and the backwards hat guy. Who got all the glory at UNC? Hansbrough. Who deserved all the glory at UNC? Lawson and Ellington.
We were glad to see AT&T being able to replicate Hansbrough years at UNC in just a short, 30-second commercial. The only thing missing was Jay Bilas coming in at the ened and talking about how awesome Tyler Hansbrough is for having single-handedly found that dog for the little girl.
I believe that is an almost identical story to the “Carlos Boozer commercial.” Oh wait, no one even wanted him to be in a commercial.
Boo yah!! The AT&T folks must have seen Tyler’s high school glamour shots and decided he was commercial material. How about a recap of those?? Maybe those next to the National Championship trophy??
Carlos Boozer not in a commercial, eh? HA! You need to stay in school: http://www.juneauempire.com/stories/082709/loc_486592367.shtml
