He held the honor of biggest mistake of the night until about 2:15 am eastern time, when the final seconds ticked away in the Arizona-UAB game. The Wildcats were down 3 points with 25 seconds left and were at the line. Wildcat player makes the first free throw, misses the second. A freshman for the Cats grabs the rebound and puts it back in - tie game! Then that same freshman fouls on purpose as soon as the ball is inbounded. Yes, he had just tied the score. Arizona fires a jumper with about 5 seconds left - no good.
UAB rebounds, and just as the Blazer is about to heave a 60-footer, he is grabbed from behind by another Wildcat freshman, Jamelle Horne. Intentional foul with 0.8 seconds left in a tie game. Of course, UAB makes a free throw and wins. Nice.
Just in case it sounds like we made up the fact that Arizona committed fouls on purpose twice in the final 25 seconds of a tie game, here’s the video…
