We just read this story about the Yankees-Rays spring training brawl, which highlights the fact that Yankee Shelley Duncan claims his slide, shown in the clip below, was a not dirty a play.
Duncan stated, “I saw it a couple times. I still don’t understand why they were as upset as they were.” You can decide for yourself if there was a reason to be upset.
But, after a little more digging, we found something in Duncan’s past that might shed some light on his comments about the slide.Turns out, Duncan was a boxing judge in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. He was one of the judges who voted in favor of Park Si-Hun, a 3-2 decision in favor of the South Korean over the dominant Roy Jones, Jr.
After that fight, Duncan had this to day: “I watched it live and a couple times since. I don’t understand why Jones was so upset. Yeah, he out-punched Park 86-32, but I just don’t understand being so upset.”
Duncan would, of course, later be suspended by the IOC and then try his hand at baseball.
What, is BJK a freakin’ moron? Shelley Duncan was 9 years old in ‘88. Good for him, sticking up for his player who got taken out the last time these teams played. I can’t belive the Gays got upset either, after all, nobody on the Yankees broke anyone on their team’s wrist. But it’s fine if it’s done to the Yankees, isn’t it? That’s why Gomes, who assaulted Duncan even though he wasn’t involved in the play, got a shorter suspension. Yankee haters, go home.
WOW!
Watching the Memphis-UCLA game, looks like the refs as usual, are keping a West coast team in it, even though they are losing on the floor. Im from Boston, do not care for either team, but hate refs deciding the result. Tom D Boston, Mass
Refs are deciding a NCAA game again, UCLA-Memphis, I dont care who wins Im from Boston, but to keep a Cali team in at ALL expense Cut it out, comeon refs, 2nd half shoild be fair! Tom in Boston
