We know it’s like taking candy from a baby, but we would like to offer one particular criticism of Mike Freeman’s most recent horrendous column. This was put out on Tuesday on CBS Sportsline, and you can still find it there if you look (we will not link to it).
Basically, Freeman claimed Tyler Hansbrough was only hyped because he was white. And that there are plenty of guys who play as hard or harder than Hansbrough.
Freeman posed this exact question when comparing the work ethic of Hansbrough: “Is Georgetown’s Roy Hibbert a coaster?”
We would like to answer that question with a resounding YES.
Playing against Villanova earlier - a team whose tallest guy who actually plays is 6′8” - the 7′2” Roy Hibbert managed this line… 0-2 fgs, 0 points, 4 rebounds, 4 turnovers, 5 fouls.
How does that happen? You’re telling us that Hibbert gave 100% out there on every play, being 6 inches taller than any other player, and that’s his stat line? Come on!
You know how many times Hansbrough has been held scoreless in his career? Zero. And Hibbert managed this feat in a battle in the Big East Tournament. Boy, he must have been really playing as hard as possible.
Here are a few other quick, fun facts we discovered:
–7′2”, 275-pound Hibbert has rebounded in double figures 4 times this year. 6′8”, 250-pound Hansbrough has rebounded in double figures 16 times this year.
–Hibbert has been held to single digits in scoring 6 times this year, Hansbrough has been held under 10 zero times.
So don’t you dare try to tell us that Hibbert doesn’t coast. Unless perhaps, Freeman, you don’t understand what that word means. You could have chosen Darren Collison, Michael Beasley, Derrick Rose, DJ Augustin… but not Hibbert!
And one last fun tidbit, if you click right here on the Yahoo Sports game log of Hibbert, it lists no stats for his game against Villanova today and states: “Did not play.”
We could not agree more. And Freeman, next time try to use an example that is not 100% incorrect.
