The WWE is running a storyline right now involving “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair where if he loses a match, he must retire. You can check here for a bit more detail, but essentially Ric flair must keep winning matches in order to keep wrestling. Survive and advance, if you will.
Our question: is this the same scenario that Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson finds himself in? Read the rest of this entry »
After reading about Nevada high school football player Kevin Hart making up an entire story about being heavily recruited, we sent our inside source to delve deeper into the story.
As it turns out, there was one man more disappointed by Hart’s decision than all the people he duped at his high school. Who? Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville.
“Man, I really thought Hart was coming to Auburn,” Tuberville told our source. “We sent guys out there, I visited with his folks for hours. I was really disheartened when I did not see an Auburn hat on that table on signing day.” Read the rest of this entry »
Generally, we like the stuff written by ESPN Page 2’s LZ Granderson. And his latest piece about former Chicago Bull Craig Hodges was different. You can check here for that full article. Granderson delivered this article in an interesting style that was clear, to the point, and a nice read.
Essentially, the article is about how Hodges, a deadly 3-point shooter, was unable to even get a tryout from any other NBA team after the Bulls cut him in 1992 at age 32. Hodges filed a lawsuit against the NBA, claiming that the league “blackballed” him due to his outspoken nature about racial issues and criticism of the league and other players about their involvement in poor communities.
Granderson makes an excellent point in his article. And although Hodges did not win his lawsuit against the NBA, the article at least makes you contemplate that Hodges’ theory of being blackballed has some validity.
But we have our own theory. It wasn’t the NBA that kept Hodges from getting on with another NBA team - it was his Bulls teammate Michael Jordan. Check out the following events and see if our theory does not hold at least a small amount of water. Read the rest of this entry »
We love college basketball, we really do. But there is one aspect of the sport that makes it almost not worth watching. You guessed it - the referees. Now, we could probably write this just about any day, but today is particularly appropriate for this post.
Last night, there were two games, both being played at the same time on television, that were without a doubt decided solely by refs and not the players. And that is not what college basketball is all about. That’s not why we watch. Read the rest of this entry »
We just read this article filling us in that actor Roy Schieder died over the weekend. While we haven’t seen a ton of movies with Roy in them, we have seen THE movie he was in - Jaws. The movie that made us forever fearful of swimming in the ocean at night.
And so, in honor of Roy, we pass on to you our favorite line from “Jaws,” spoken by Scheider:
“You’re gonna need a bigger boat. “
One way to know you live in a crappy city… the PBA Tour makes a stop where you live.
We came across this article earlier today, which contained an awesome quote from former New York Giant Tiki Barber. Of course, Barber is now famous for (a) criticizing and making fun of Eli Manning earlier this season, and (b) retiring the year before the Giants won the big one. Anyway, here’s the quote from Tiki that got our attention:
“I feel great joy for them because I know in a lot of ways I helped a lot of guys on that team,” Barber said. “I know Brandon [Jacobs] was someone who benefited from me being there; even criticizing someone is a way of getting them to think about themselves.”
His comments rang true to us. Then, we thought, what other people might Tiki have led to greatness through his catty criticisms? Read the rest of this entry »
Why is Rutgers that good? Because at the end of last season, idiot Mike Freeman stated that Duke was “not much better than Rutgers.” Well, then Rutgers must be doing pretty damn well right now.
Last night’s win at UNC last night was quite impressive. But rather then take shots at the Tar Heels, we instead we gloat in the face of one Mike Freeman.
Feel free to check here for the entire column written by Freeman last year after VCU defeated Duke in the tournament. We knew it was crap then, and it’s even worse now. Yeah. you can check here for our thoughts on his story back then too.
Currently, Duke is 20-1, 8-0 in the ACC (4 of those on the road), and ranked no. 2 in the country. Keep that in mind while we highlight some excerpts from Freeman’s “over-the-top how does he get paid to write” story from last spring.
–”Now, the Blue Devils dynasty is officially done after suffering its first opening-round loss in over a decade. Goodnight, Dukies. You’re not much better than Rutgers.”
–”The old Duke is dead… The new Duke is just another team.”
Great work, Freeman. Really. We could go on, but have decided not to waste our efforts on this guy any more.
We’ll focus our energy on watching the Blue Devils rebuild their great wall.
