The WWE is running a storyline right now involving “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair where if he loses a match, he must retire.  You can check here for a bit more detail, but essentially Ric flair must keep winning matches in order to keep wrestling.  Survive and advance, if you will.

Our question: is this the same scenario that Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson finds himself in?

We just read this article on espn.com by Pat Forde, stating that Sampson’s status as coach at Indiana from here on out will be decided on a game-by-game basis.  Knowing how much winning rules the day in college sports, here’s the way we read that type of comment from the university - “You win, you can coach; you lose, you’re out.”

Just like Ric Flair!  The WWE has shown up in real life in Bloomington, Indiana.  Awesome.

But that’s not where the comparison ends.  One of Ric Flair’s unofficial nicknames is “the dirtiest player in the game.”  Um, Kelvin Sampson?  Hello?  We say that nickname fits him perfectly.

Really, the only things missing are the hair that’s an odd color of yellow and a few struts.

So, who do you think loses his job first?  The initial edge goes to Flair since Sampson’s Hoosiers take on Michigan State on Saturday and Flair does not wrestle until a pay-per-view on Sunday.  (Although, it might already be known if Flair’s last match will be Sunday.)

Good luck to both!  We think the real winners here, though, are the pro wrestlings fan who are also Hoosers fans.  Those folks get Monday Night Raw live on campus more than once per week!
