After reading about Nevada high school football player Kevin Hart making up an entire story about being heavily recruited, we sent our inside source to delve deeper into the story.

As it turns out, there was one man more disappointed by Hart’s decision than all the people he duped at his high school. Who? Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville.

“Man, I really thought Hart was coming to Auburn,” Tuberville told our source. “We sent guys out there, I visited with his folks for hours. I was really disheartened when I did not see an Auburn hat on that table on signing day.”

Missing out on Hart was just one of the many shortcomings for the Tigers on signing day. Across the state, Alabama checked in with 31 recruits and a class that most outlets ranked in the top 3 among recruiting classes.

Auburn ranked somewhere between 18-25 in most recruiting rankings. But Tuberville can’t help but think what might have been. “Now, I know Hart actually made up the fact that both those schools were trying to get him, but that doesn’t take away what we saw in him,” he told our secret source. “We really thought he could solidify our offensive line. Heck, maybe even move us up to around 16th in the recruiting ranks.”

When we asked Nevada law enforcement if the fact that Auburn was actually recruiting Hart would factor into their investigation into his false claims, their representative replied, “Auburn? Who is that, his girlfriend? Where is she going to school?” After the confusion was settled, the representative opined that, “I don’t think Hart ever had any intention of going to school in Georgia.”

But there still may be hope Hart, after all. When our source asked Tuberville if he would still offer Hart a scholarship, Auburn’s coach said he wanted to wait and see how the police investigation panned out, noting that filed charges would really go a long in making him feel more a part of the Auburn program.

***One side note: Our inside source asked the NCAA if it planned any further action regarding Hart. The NCAA representative told our source that he had only received one complaint, filed by Tennessee head coach Phil Fulmer. He said Fulmer suggested Auburn be put on probation for being involved in the scam, even if they legitimately were recruiting Hart.
