Ever wonder why we think referees are such huge a-holes? Well, thanks to ESPN’s coverage of the Tennessee-Florida game, we now have solid proof. Check out ref Ted Valentine on the clip below.

Really? He had to signal that technical foul 4 times? 4 freaking times! Come on, Ted, stop your damn grandstanding. The guy for Tennessee was fouled hard. He got angry. Did he deserve a technical? Sure. Was there any reason for Valentine to stand there, stare him down, and emphatically signal the technical 4 times? Of course not. But that’s what refs do - draw attention to themselves in any way possible.

Valentine knew he called the “T.” He could have made the signal once, then walked to the scorer’s table and told them who the technical was on. But no, he had to stand there like a jerk and signal it over and over. Or, could he, perhaps, have been enticing the Tennessee player into more antics and another technical? Not so far fetched.

In the end, we say thank you to Ted Valentine. It’s nice to have good, solid proof that refs really are the grandstanding jackasses we thought there were.

Thanks for pointing out the video. Some referees want the game to be all about them, and Ted Valentine leads them all. He is an arrogant, pompous, attention whore of a ref. It blows my mind that he gets high profile games to officiate.
