After posting this article yesterday questioning why Arthur Blank would show any interest in hiring college coach Pete Carroll, we got an email from our inside source.  Here’s the scoop…

He has just received word from Fayetteville that Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino has voiced his interest in the USC head coaching job - should Pete Carroll decide to become the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons and that job is vacant.

Our source reportedly heard Petrino say that while he loves the Arkansas program, this would just be an opportunity he could not pass up.  After all he has roots in the west, having coached at Weber State, Nevada, Arizona State, and Utah State.  And we have on good authority that his family once vacationed in southern California when Petrino was a youngster.

No offense to Arkansas or the great time spent as their head coach, Petrino might have said, but my heart has always been at the Coliseum, especially with McFadden likely heading to the NFL.

So there you have it.  Bobby Petrino has tossed his hat in the ring as a possible candidate for the possible opening at USC is Pete Carroll decides to leave USC to take head job with the Falcons.
